Check out this latest post from Jill Woerner- IN-NELL 2010 Teacher of the Year and Pendleton Heights Middle School Teacher.

You will need pictures of different characters wearing different clothing.

Look at the different colors on the clothing items that the characters are wearing. When you find a color, complete the sentence with the name of the character and the item of clothing that they are wearing in that color. You may only use one article of clothing per character. Try to be the first one to find a clothing item to fit in each color.

Example:

Round #1

1. ______________________ lleva _____________________________ roj_.

2. ______________________ lleva _____________________________ anaranjad_________.

3. _____________________ lleva ______________________________ amarill___________.

4. _______________________ lleva ____________________________ verde_____.

5. _____________________ lleva ______________________ azul____.

6. _____________________ lleva _____________________ morad____.

7. ___________________ lleva ________________ rosad____.

8. __________________ lleva _________________ gris_____.

9. __________________ lleva _________________ negr_____.

10. __________________ lleva _______________ blanc_____.

11. __________________ lleva ________________ marron___.

This post comes from Julie Canady, K-6 Spanish and 3-6 ENL teacher at SENSE Charter School. When teaching a healthy eating unit, I teach my 2nd grade students this song:

ME GUSTA FRUTA
**to the tune of the song “I Want Candy”

Me gusta fruta
1, 2, 3, ¡Che!
Me gusta fruta
4, 5, 6, ¡Che!

Manzana, naranja, fresas y pera
Che, che che
Banana, sandía, uvas, limón
Che, che che

Me gusta fruta
1, 2, 3, Che
Me gusta fruta
4, 5, 6, (shout your favorite fruit. Grita tu fruta favorita)

English Translation
I like fruit
1, 2, 3, Che!
I like fruit
4, 5, 6, Che!

Apple, orange, strawberries, pear
Che, che, che, che
Banana, watermelon, grapes, lemon
Che, che, che, che

I like fruit
1, 2, 3, Che
I like fruit
4, 5, 6, (shout your favorite fruit)

My students also like playing this variation on hot potato. Put several plastic fruits, vegetables, food items, or the vocabulary you are planning to target in a large bag. I like to play culturally appropriate music. When the music starts the students pass the bag around the circle. Once the music stops the person that has the bag in their hand has to draw one item out and has 40 seconds to describe the item. This is a good activity to practice circumlocution skills.

Eastwood Middle School

Back to Back (idea taken from MORETPRS Listserv)

Prep:

Each student gets a mini dry erase board, marker, and a Kleenex. (Or on blank paper if you don’t have these). Students are partnered up in rows and are faced back to back. The half of the class facing one direction is Team A. The half of the class facing the other direction is Team B.

Activity:

Teacher says a definition. Students write the word and cover it up. When finished, they raise their hands. When all hands are up, teacher reveals answer. Partners reveal answer to each other. If both are correct, no one scores a point. If both are wrong, no one scores a point. If Team A person is right and Team B is wrong, Team A scores a point and vice versa. Teacher asks, “Who scored for Team A?” and writes points on board-repeats this for Team B. Whichever team has the most points wins.
